Canadian Blog House Review

Why I’m Obsessed with Canadian Blog House’s Review of SwaggerTag ID Tags

Canadian Blog House review of SwaggerTagMid-May, Canadian Blog House snatched a few of my SwaggerTag ID Tags and took them for a spin, offering up a $25 dollar package giveaway to an avid blog reader and traveler. The Canadian Blog House review caught my eye: such a glimmer of excitement about SwaggerTag!

Canadian Blog House Photo 1Sandy from Ottawa-based Canadian Blog House couldn’t be more of a joyous Internet personality. She’s constantly blogging about family-friendly travel, some of the most ridiculously mouth-watering recipes (like this Maple Blueberry Sauce), and products that just make our rush-around lifestyle a little bit easier. She’s been an Internet forum personality for nearly ten years now; although her vibrant Canadian Blog House offers much more than a forum. She fuels a continually awesome range of blog postings and giveaways. She’s created a safe-space for a community with like-minded, fun interests.

Canadian Blog House Photo 2Sandy’s constant struggle with losing containers (something us moms can understand on a very intimate level, for sure) brought her to the SwaggerTag ID Tag. Her containers started coming back to her at a much greater rate; what’s more—she loved the personalized ID circle with her Canadian Blog House logo, featuring an adorable beaver. Furthermore, Sandy’s outdoorsy, fun-loving personality was perfect for SwaggerTags because SwaggerTag IDs are manufactured with food-grade materials and without paint.

Here’s what Sandy said in a May 18, 2014 “Got Gear? SwaggerTag It!” Blog Post Review:

“Designed by entrepreneur Karen Walker, SwaggerTags are fun, colourful, durable, and fully customizable identification tags for just about any personal items you wish to tag. They are great for luggage, hockey bags, knapsacks, purses, and even things like bikes, strollers, and camping gear!”

WAHM Reviews

WAHM Reviews takes a look at SwaggerTag Identification Tags

WAHM Reviews, SwaggerTag ID TagsI had the pleasure of meeting Mary Madalene Yaroscavitch at The Mompreneur Conference & Awards Gala, and she invited me to supply her a with SwaggerTag for a review from her blog WAHM Reviews. Her post went up March 14th, 2014, and had nothing but praise for SwaggerTag Identification Tags.

WAHM Reviews Photo of SwaggerTag ID TagsMary wrote that “It’s a neat little gadget! Whether you want to make sure your kids’ backpacks or sports bags are identified, or you have a family member or friend who’s a frequent flier, there’s sure to be someone on your list who would love to be surprised with one of these!” She went on further with “SwaggerTags are so awesome, I like to use them for more than just travel! How about your child’s backpack. Picture a 7-year-old looking for their Hello Kitty backpack amongst the 20 others in the classroom. You get the picture.”

WAHM Reviews is a medley of moms sharing their experiences with their audience of work-at-home-moms. WAHM Reviews knows that according to Pew Research Center (2013), approximately 53% of women are Work At Home Moms. What does this mean? These women make most of the buying decisions in their family, since they are the primarily responsible for the household and all that is entailed in caring for their family, homes, community, and themselves.

Fine Fit Day Review

What I’m loving about Fine Fit Day’s review of SwaggerTag ID Tags

Fine Fit Day reviewAfter the outside temperature started to finally rise above -10°C, I took the opportunity to get back into my running schedule. For motivation, I started to peruse a few fitness blogs, and came across Carly Pizzani & Fine Fit Day.

Carly is an Australian ex-pat living in Brooklyn, NYC with her husband & two-year-old son. She’s an ACSM certified personal trainer, currently working part-time and writing her Fine Fit Day blog, as well as a weekly column called Working (Out) Mama for The Stir of CafeMom fame. Her goal with Fine Fit Day is to motivate and encourage everyone to exercise. She’s a holistic health proponent, and shares workouts, fitness tips, inspirational stories, recipes, as well as updates from her life as a trainer and a fit mama.

I was pretty wowed by her personal story so I sent her an email, along with an invitation to try out SwaggerTag ID Tags. Here’s what she said in a April 9, 2014 “What I’m Loving Right Now” post:

“A while back, Karen from SwaggerTag emailed me, asking me if I’d be interested in trying a sample of her product. It’s a cool idea – a small, colorful tag that you can personalize with your own photo or logo, then you write your contact details inside and attach to luggage, or gym bag, or kid’s bag. It’s totally safe, your info is hidden, but still accessible if you lose your stuff. Another small, independently owned business, too! (And Karen is funny, lovely, and actually went to the trouble of making an insert with my logo in it when she sent me a sample). Disclaimer: my SwaggerTag was free, but I would buy it in a heartbeat.”

Mom Inventors Handbook

SwaggerTag is being featured in the
2nd edition of The Mom Inventors Handbook!

The Mom Inventors HandbookI wanted to share with you that SwaggerTag and I are going to be featured in the second edition of a book I’m a big fan of: The Mom Inventors Handbook.

When I first started talking about developing my SwaggerTag concept, my sister-in-law gifted me The Mom Inventors Handbook, How to Turn Your Great Idea Into the Next Big Thing, by Tamara Monosoff. For a few weeks, it collected dust because I was skeptical of it’s title, but one day I decided to give it a read and was amazed with the very useful & actionable information it contained. And despite it being U.S. based, I found it very relevant for my Canadian business.

I became a member of Tamara’s Mom Inventors online community and developed a relationship with her over her Moms Helping Schools program and a few other initiatives. When she decided to write a second edition to her very successful book, she reached out to her community asking for new examples she could incorporate. I responded, along with many others, and was selected to be included in the book. I am the only Canadian!

If you are interested in bringing your own idea to market, I highly recommend The Mom Inventors Handbook. This new edition includes written and personal video stories, like mine, from over 50 entrepreneurs, many of whom used the 1st Edition of this book while developing their products. Tamara provides clear steps from patents to funding to manufacturing to sales to publicity to licensing.

The book will be available for sale starting April 2nd, 2014. In thanks for our participation and help with getting the word out about her book launch, Tamara has invited me to set up an affiliate links, which I’ve done on both (for Canadian residents) and (for U.S. residents), if you care to purchase a copy of your own.

Awesome Bonuses!

Anyone who purchases the book by 12:00 midnight Pacific Time, on Thursday April 3rd, will be entered into a drawing. All you need to do is submit your or book purchase order number at Drawings will be held and announced 9:00 PM Pacific Time/12:00 Midnight Eastern time, April 4th.

Please feel free to share this message with anyone who is thinking of starting their own business.

SwaggerTags combine a unique set of features that go well beyond what other id/bag/luggage tags offer, to make them the best way to tag everything that heads out the door with you.

myColdCup, Top FinalistmyColdCup by Gwenda Lindhorst-Ko
myColdCup makes a high quality stainless steel insulated cup with a freeze stick inside that keeps drinks below 4C, refrigeration temperature, for 6 hours. Gwenda designed myColdCup for milk, the hardest drink to keep safely cold because of bacteria, the difficulty keeping crevices clean, and the fact that milk warms up faster than other beverages due to its fat content. myColdCup is being used as an alternative to the school milk program because it is much cheaper to bring milk from home. For others who are lactose intolerant, it allows them to take soy milk or other drinks to school. myColdCup is also being used by children who have medical needs which require their drinks to be kept refrigerated, such as allergy formulas. In the US, where kids spend up to half of their lunch time waiting in line for milk, they can now skip the line and have time to enjoy their lunch. Although Gwenda is the primary drive behind the idea, many parents have given input to the design along the way, for which she is very grateful.

Congratulations to all!

This Little Piggy Shop

This Little Piggy Shop adds SwaggerTag ID Tags

This Little Piggy Shop, SwaggerTag retailerI connected with Kat Armstrong on Twitter recently, each of us having learned a bit about the other through our respective nomination listings for the 2014 Mompreneur of the Year Awards. A few keystrokes later, we had arranged to meet up at the This Little Piggy Shop on Queen St. West in Toronto.

This Little Piggy was born out of the frustration that goes along with searching for the best quality, affordable baby products while ignoring all the unnecessary add-ons that suck the money right out of your wallet. The brainchild of Faye Moxam and Kat Armstrong, This Little Piggy takes the guesswork out of shopping for a new baby, and the different stages of development. Two moms, four kids, no nonsense.

What impressed me most was Kat & Faye’s interest in supporting Canadian products & entrepreneurs, and the welcoming, casual atmosphere that greets everyone who walks into their boutique. Walking in, I felt like I could happily spend the afternoon chatting with these two women at the community that they attract. And it doesn’t hurt to have the city’s best specialty doughnut shop next door (Glory Hole, in case you’re wondering).

Whether it’s your first or third, they promise that their offerings are right on the money and ignore those unnecessary trinkets that collect dust in your nursery. With everything from bath time essentials to a dad’s only diaper bag, they’ll give you what you need in the first two years to take you through.

Spoiled Baby

Spoiled Baby BoutiqueSwaggerTag would like to thank Spoiled Baby for including our ID Tags in their fabulous Davisville & Yonge, in mid-town Toronto boutique.

Since 1995, Spoiled Baby has been featuring unique baby gifts and innovative products. This independent, owner-operated boutique is proud to offer a fantastic array of “smart” baby tools that will make caring for your little one an easy transition. They sell baby clothing, shoes, toys, books, body care, nursery décor, baby furniture and no-nonsense, smart, baby products, and now SwaggerTag Identification Tags. They pride themselves on their fantastic customer service, great prices, and unique selection that keeps parents coming back to their store and recommending them to others.

The owners have four great kids, with loads of parenting experience, so they have a hands on approach, and are always in tune with new trends and concerns. Plus, Nadia has been wonderfully supportive of me and my product.

Yummy Mummy Club’s “Mompreneur of the Week”

Yummy Mummy Club Entrepreneur of the WeekSwaggerTag has the honour of being featured as the February 24, 2014 “Mompreneur of the Week” on Erica Ehm’s Yummy Mummy Club (YMC). YMC’s Mompreneur of the Week is a regular item posted by Amy Ballon and Danielle Botterell of Spark Consulting and blog Mom Ink.

Amy and Danielle are passionate about all things small business. They frequently speak on the topic of entrepreneurship to the media, at seminars and conferences. Amy and Danielle co-founded Admiral Road Designs, which they sold in 2013 after more than a decade. They also wrote a fabulous book entitled Mom Inc. — How to Raise Your Family and Your Business Without Losing Your Mind or Your Shirt, published in 2011 by HarperCollins. These days, the best friends continue to work together, advising other entrepreneurs via their business, Spark Consulting.

Erica has gone from rock’n roll to rocking the cradle. If you are a Canadian mom, and were a teen or in your 20s in the 1980s, you’re very likely already familiar with YMC & Erica Ehm. Erica was a 1980s pioneering video jockey at the Canadian cable television station MuchMusic, but has collected a dizzying array of other accomplishments since. She is the creator/publisher of the which speaks to the woman in every mom struggling with the reality of being a modern parent. The Yummy Mummy Club was started after the birth of her second child.

The Race for the 2014 Mompreneur of the Year Award

2014 Mompreneur of the Year Award
Once again, SwaggerTag has been nominated for this year’s Mompreneur of the Year Award. I’m thrilled to be part of this program again and in such great company. While there are fewer entrants this time around, the competition is much more fierce and the businesses particularly impressive.

At this stage, the nominees are vying for enough votes to make it into the Top 10, and the opportunity to be presented to the judging panel. This year’s judging lineup consists of women who can certainly teach us a thing or two about how to successfully balance work and family:

  • Maria Locker, Founder & CEO, Mompreneur Showcase Group Inc.
  • Jane Bradley, Group Vice-President and Publisher, ParentsCanada Group
  • Erica Ehm, Creator, Publisher, Yummy Mummy Club
  • Amy Ballon & Danielle Botterell, Co-Founders, Authors, Spark Consulting & MOM Inc.
  • Julie Cole, Co-Founder & Vice-President, Mabel’s Labels
  • Sharon Vinderine, Founder & CEO, PTPA Media
  • The voting began on November 17th, 2014 and will continue to be registered until midnight on March 2nd, 2014. This is a staggering 105 days for all nominees to encourage support. The program is open to Canadian mompreneurs only, and only Canadians are permitted to vote.

Last year, SwaggerTag managed to come in second place, so there’s only one way I can perform better this year. (For the “official” acknowledgement, head here.)

    Canadian Basics review of SwaggerTag

    Canadian Basics review of SwaggerTag
Canadian Basics review of SwaggerTag, photoI’ve had the pleasure of making some great connections via The Mompreneurs organization, and one of them was recently with Diane Welburn of Canadian Basics. Canadian Basics is a blog dedicated to those wishing to live a more simple, frugal and basic lifestyle. SwaggerTags appealed to her because her son is forever losing his items at school and at friend’s houses. Diane approached me to review SwaggerTag, and I welcomed the opportunity to send samples out to her and her son, Spencer. And it seems they were well received!

She starts her review with “Wow!” and ends it with “You can easily tell I love this product. It is such a great product. I will be getting a few for when we head on our Vegas trip!”, with a lot more positive comments and photos in between. For the full review, check it out here.

This Roller Coaster Called Life Review

SwaggerTag: the new best travel friend!

This Roller Coaster Called Life review of SwaggerTag ID Tags
Naomi knows that life is full of ups and downs, and that’s how she came about naming her blog, This Roller Coaster Called Life. She is also a huge fan of all things Disney, and was looking for a tag she could customize with some of her family’s favorite characters. I believe she learned about SwaggerTag from another blog review, and then connected with me on Twitter.

In her October 15, 2013 review, I love that Naomi calls SwaggerTag her new best travel friend! Here’s more of what she said:

  • “So, I saw this really cool product and had to try it out!”
  • “Here’s my new best travel friend, SwaggerTag!”
  • “First of all, it can be personalized. (…) Too cool! Really, the sky’s the limit in personalizing these. The SwaggerTag comes with a small paper ring that makes cutting out an image to just the right size simple.”
  • “[M]y son is begging for the green SwaggerTag. Yes, he REALLY likes it that much!”
  • “Planning your next trip? I think SwaggerTags would make a great addition to your carry-ons. I know my carry-ons will be sporting SwaggerTags for my next journey!”
  • Naomi is also an Independent Vacation Planner affiliated with The Magic For Less Travel. While her specialty is vacation to the varied Disney destinations, she’d would be happy to help you plan vacations to other destinations, as well. If you are interested in a no-obligation quote, please feel free to email her at
